The Village of Pinehurst is in the process of assessing the community's needs for library services and has obtained extensive public input through an online survey, Public Input Meetings, Community Conversations, and personal interviews. The Library Needs Assessment Background Information Report contains important information about the Given Memorial Library, its performance relative to comparisons, and public input received thus far.

The Village's survey provider, ETC Institute, administered a mailed survey of randomly selected Pinehurst households to obtain statistically valid data on resident needs for library services and residents' willingness to pay for those services. Click here to view these survey results.

We appreciate the nearly 400 residents who participated in the library assessment online survey, as well as those residents who attended the Public Input Meetings and participated in the Community Conversations in February. Your participation and feedback is invaluable to this process! If you have an idea on how to best meet resident needs for library services, use the "Ideas" tool below.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The library needs assessment has occurred in four phases:

Phase 1: Review Existing Conditions/Data & Information Gathering

LibraryIQ will assess current program and event attendance, population and demographic historical trends and projections, relevant planning documents and reports, existing space for programs and services and library reports, and compare this to best practices and successful library services in communities with similar demographics.

Phase 2: Solicit Input/Public Engagement

LibraryIQ will execute a public engagement strategy designed to ensure broad community input to determine the community’s desires and realistic needs for improved or expanded library services. Public input will be gathered via Library Community Conversations, Library Public Input workshops, an online survey, and a survey mailed to a randomly selected sample of Pinehurst households.

Phase 3: Conduct Needs Assessment/Form Recommendation

LibraryIQ will analyze the data collected during Phase 2 in order to understand the need and public demand for library services in Pinehurst. LibraryIQ will also identify and evaluate alternative strategies such as combining services, relocating, or constructing a new facility.

Phase 4: Prepare and Deliver Written Report

LibraryIQ will prepare and deliver a written library needs assessment report to Village Council.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

During the library needs assessment process, there have been several ways for Pinehurst residents to provide their feedback and give input:

  1. An online survey for all residents was available on this site through February 28. View the survey results in the Documents List on the right side of your screen.
  2. Public Input Workshops: Village Council and staff held two public input workshops: February 18, 2020 from 6:00-8:00pm and February 19, 2020 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Assembly Hall, 305 Magnolia Road.
  3. Mailed Survey: A survey administered by ETC Institute was mailed to a statistically valid sample of Pinehurst residents in July 2020.
